Summertime and the Living is Easy

I am experiencing the laziest of all possible summers. I don’t know what it is but lately I haven’t been able to get motivated about anything. When I’m not at work, I don’t want to do anything even slightly productive.
It could have something to do with the fact that it’s been hot as the seventh circle of hell this summer or possibly the fact that summer should never be taken seriously unless you’re in the tourism industry. But whatever it is, I just want to sit around, hang out with my friends, eat small plates at cool restaurants and try out new and refreshing alcoholic beverages. And you know what? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.

I don’t think the summer was really meant to be taken seriously. Summer is like an open book/open note test in that blow off class that everyone takes in college. You know that you should probably take it more seriously than you do but you know you won’t. After weeks of feeling guilty about not doing anything I said I was going to do (clean out my closet, learn a foreign language, start dating, etc.), I’ve decided to stop beating myself up about it and just go with the flow.

Life is too short to be feeling guilty about having fun. I might devote an hour or two a day to getting a few things done but that’s it! I’m single and childless so I might as well take advantage of not having to answer to anyone while I still have the chance. I’m just going to have as much fun as I possibly can until Labor Day and that’s all there is to it. So, what did you do for your summer vacation?
