Refuse to Lower Your Standards: Understanding Why You’re Here

What is an over-achiever?

I would define an over-achiever as someone who not only makes extraordinary accomplishments in life, but also as someone who has this almost unnatural diligence and drive for arriving at destiny. They are often labeled as dreamers and sadly people seldom take them seriously. I believe that over-achievers may also be visionaries in some sense.

If you are one of those people that would be labeled as an over-achiever, many times people will often tell you that the things you do are sufficient and that you don’t necessarily need to strive for anything more.  For those of us who have set high standards for ourselves, we are almost never satisfied. In many ways that may sound vain, but when you fully understand God’s will for your life and what you have been called to do, you will always be one that strives for Kingdom excellence and superiority. I am one of those individuals that are almost never satisfied. Every time something outstanding happens for me that I have worked hard for, instead of basking in the job well done, I am thinking about the next achievement I need to make. Yes, I do believe at times that there is a little voice in my head that says, “appreciate what God has already done and slow down” and I do. You’ve read my article “Walk , Don’t Run”, but when God endows you with so much, he requires much from you.

There may be some individuals in your circle that advise you to lower your standards a little when it comes to your aspirations, relationships and goals.  However, I beseech you; DON’T DO IT! There is a divine explanation behind the reason why God put the drive and passion inside you. I would never lower my standards in any area of life. There is no reason that anyone should feel pressured to do so. I do believe that many of us should raise standards, but not lower them. If you know what you want from life and you already have it settled in your mind that you know exactly who you are and why you’re here, you’ll refuse to be moved. I encourage you today to stay on the path that you’re on if you’re currently in the will of God. If you’re not in His will, get in His will. You will be able to understand yourself much better. If you stay on the same wavelength with God, you’ll be inclined to His instruction and in turn He will bring you to an expected end.
